Urban Dictionary (new edition)
If you listen to famous rappers you certainly know what a “low-low” is “fo’shizzle my nizzle”? But since Facebook and Twitter appeared, a bunch of new words and expressions came directly from da hood into da dictionary leaving some people to wince because they absolutely don’t understand what you are trying to tell them. Frustrating situation isn’t it?
Aaron Peckham founder and creator of urbandictionary.com has a solution: he released a new edition of his famous “Urban Dictionary”. This edition is pretty interesting as new expressions related to new gadgets are highly represented like “ringtone dj”, “Freudian click” or “Google Harder”. With this book you will now understand the guys in the street when they shout on you stating you’re a real “G” or that “ridin’qwerty” is “hella” dangerous especially while doing a “flip a bitch”… with your “low low”.
A good book to (re)discover English slang and/or to better understand hip-hop lyrics or perhaps also your kids!

The Android Cookbook
This new book written by Ian F. Darwin is a real Android quick-tip bible. Over 200 recipes (i would say tips & tricks) to correctly write Android apps are collected in this book. This book is divided into 22 chapters that will explain step-by-step each part of the Android architecture and how to program specific tasks or app parts.
Each topic is divided in two main parts: the first one is the problem’s description like “Implementing Bluetooth Device Discovery”, “Handling touch events on an OpenStreetMap Overlay” “Integrating Social Networking” or “Capturing Video Using MediaRecorder”. Of course beginners will find in the first two chapters a really good introduction on how Android is internally working and how to setup the tools (SDK) in their developing environments like Eclipse.
For each recipe, the principles are clearly explained and the solutions are described in a manner that even if you have never written Android code before, you will directly understand the explanations. A good point is that each recipe is accompanied by a full source code that can also be directly downloaded via a QR code printed in the book. This book will definitely help you to acquire a better understanding of Android programming and will certainly give you a lot of hints to achieve certain tasks.
I’m pretty sure that after (or even while) reading this book you will get new ideas and will understand how some famous Android apps are implemented. One programming tip: if you have a great app idea try to find out in the cookbook which parts you will need (e.g. a camera function, a list function, a social function and some image algorithms like in Instagram). Then try to understand how these parts could work together and setup the interaction steps. After a few hours you will get a cool working Android app.

Die 99 skurrilsten Momente des Fußballs
Das Runde muss in das Eckige heißt es so schön beim Fußball. Aber war das immer so? Leider nicht! Das Buch „99 skurrilsten Momente des Fußballs„ ist ein echt witziges Sammelsurium der schrägsten Fussballgeschichten.
Im Buch werden Sie wieder ein paar kultige Szenen lesen können wie z.B. das legendäre Hartmann-Völler Interview oder die „Papierkugel Gottes“ beim Rückspiel im UEFA-Pokal Halbfinale 2009 mit dem Sieg von Hamburger SV. Aber hier geht es nicht nur um die Heldentaten mancher Spieler, ganz im Gegenteil auch die Schiris werden im Buch „geehrt“. Meine Lieblingsstory war die mit dem Schiri, der nach 32 Minuten die Halbzeit pfeifen wollte. Wie er davon abgehalten wurde ist schon lustig: ein Spieler kam zu ihm und erklärte ihm, dass sein Trikot noch nicht nass war, also konnte es noch nicht wirklich die Halbzeit gewesen sein, denn in der Halbzeit sei sein Trikot immer klitschnass. Aha! So wurde das Spiel fortgesetzt. Was nachher mit dem Schiri geschah, ist ein bisschen trauriger…
Lustige Geschichten rund um Ronaldo, Cantona, Beckenbauer oder sogar Pelé werden im Buch auch erwähnt.
Das Buch ist jetzt pünktlich zur EM 2012 rausgekommen. Wenn Sie also vor oder nach einem EM-Spiel mal den Klugscheisser spielen wollen so à la „Wusstest du, dass 1996…?“, oder als EM-WM Oberexperte von eurem Freundeskreis anerkannt werden, dann müssen Sie unbedingt dieses Buch kaufen und lesen!

Le Platt Lorrain pour les Nuls
Salli bisòmme ! Je n’aurais jamais pensé que ce livre (dans la collection « Pour les Nuls ») puisse voir le jour et enfin mettre à l’honneur une de mes langues préférées : le Platt. Marielle Rispail, Marianne Hass-Heckel (bien connue des amateurs de Platt et des anciens lecteurs de Sarre-Hebdo pour sa rubrique de « Witze ») et Hervé Atamaniuk ont lancé cette semaine cet ouvrage de poche. Ce livre très pédagogique explique avec précision et humour les origines du Platt, les différences entre les zones (Boulay, Sarreguemines, Thionville) tout en classant thématiquement («Rencontres », « Desserts et Gâteaux » etc..) les sujets et les expressions du Platt. Après une introduction à la grammaire et à la prononciation vous découvrirez sans-doute avec une pointe d’étonnement ce qu’est une « Rätsch »un «raoudi » ou encore un « Poschtòngeschdèllder » » avant d’aller faire un tour dans le « Gaarde » pour cueillir une « Abbel ». Si vous êtes de Moselle et que vous avez toujours voulu comprendre ce que vos grands-parents vous racontaient en Platt cet ouvrage est pour vous. Et comme le disent si bien les auteurs : « Mét de Nùll ìsch doch alles lischt ! »
